Welcome 2018!

Dear CISM Parents,
Happy New Year to everyone!  I hope you had a relaxing holiday break and were able to spend some quality time with family and friends.  It feels great to be back and to see a lot of familiar faces along the floors and hallways of Chinese International School Manila.  To the entire Early Years and Elementary School community and to those students and parents who are new, welcome!
In our first week of 2018, the students are transitioning well into their classes and academic routines.  Teachers are planning lessons and activities to immerse them in the different subject areas.  To further help your children get back into full swing, we wish to ask your support in re-establishing their routines.  Ensuring that they come to school on-time each morning will help them get off to a great start each morning.  It is always important for students to arrive on time, as homeroom periods provide smooth transitions to learning.

In closing, we continue to be grateful and thankful for all that you do in supporting our students and teachers.  It is our desire to make the second half of the school year excellent for all.

Ending the Semester on a High Note

Dear CISM Parents,

We have witnessed great things this semester!  Students, teachers, parents, and the rest of the community have all worked together to provide great experiences and learning for the Early Years Program and Elementary School Division.

Below are more activities to anticipate for the month of December:
  • December 7 - Christmas Cheer (A Service Learning Project in partnership with MovEd Foundation
  • December 11 to 13 - Santa’s Workshop/Grotto
  • December 15 - Christmas Concert 2017
In our continuing efforts to strive for excellence in every aspect of student life, Chinese International School Manila is proud to announce that this year’s EY/ES Report Cards – from Nursery to Grade 4 – are now accessible via PowerSchool beginning January 8, 2018 at 8:00 AM.

Our IT Team will be sending out an email which will include procedures on how parents can access and view their child’s Report Card by December 11, 2017.   We hope that this tool will serve as a roadmap of the standards your children are working on at each grade level and be truly representative of their learning.

Thank you very much and I wish you and your family a very happy Christmas!

Distance Learning Program

Dear CISM Parents,

It is hard to believe that the end of the First Semester is just around the corner.  We had an exciting, fun-filled October and I would like to take this opportunity to provide updates as we enter the month of November.

With the upcoming 31st ASEAN Summit next week, the entire Early Years and Elementary School teams have been busy preparing distance-learning lessons which will begin on Monday, November 13.

Nursery to Grade 4 parents will be receiving an email from teachers, both homeroom and some specialists, consisting of topics, goals, resources/links, directions, and attached worksheets.  All worksheets should be printed out, answered, and given back on the first school day in which the students get back.

Grade 5 students will be using Google Classroom.  This is a learning platform in which teachers can create classes, upload worksheets, and give feedback to their students.

Parents are encouraged to guide and support students in their distance-learning opportunities.  Our Distance-Learning Program will be used during the ASEAN Summit week and days that are to be declared as #walangpasok.  Please be informed that teachers will be online from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM for any clarification and for consultation purposes.

We are also pleased to announce our annual Book Week Celebration, which runs from November 20 to 24.  Our students will engage in a variety of special book-related activities across grade levels.  In particular, they can look forward to dressing up as their favorite character on Book Character Day.  Please note that details of the week-long event will be sent out by your respective homeroom teachers.

Message from the EY/ES Director

Dear CISM Families,
September has flown by so fast!
Early Years and Elementary School have certainly had a fantastic month.  It has been busy, but the progress the students have made has been remarkable.  The entire team continues to be excited in witnessing their growth!
Now that October is approaching, we will be diving in to a lot of things as we prepare for a variety of activities.  This month, we will be having our Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 13, Friday.  In addition, United Nations Day and Halloween Celebration are big productions!  We could definitely use a lot of help from parents during these events.  Details of these activities, will follow.
As always, if you have questions or concerns – email me.  We are always willing to help and we continue to share this journey with all of you as we move ever forward into our school year.
Best,
Rica
