As with the end of Quarter 3, we concluded the lesson on My room for Grade 3 Mandarin. Some of the students could remember the vocabulary well, while others needed more time for practice. Nonetheless, the most important element in language learning is to be able to apply it in our daily lives.
Through the activity of drawing out the layout of their bedroom, then labeling them accordingly, students got to put things into perspectives. Here are some of their masterpieces -

Grade 1 students focused on the topic “Stationery” or “文具“ this month. Students enjoyed learning different vocabulary words like: 铅笔(pencil), 剪刀(scissors), 纸(paper), 白板(whiteboard), 橡皮( eraser), 书包(school bag), 订书机(stapler), 卷笔刀(sharpener), 彩色笔(color pencil), 钢笔(fountain pen), 尺子( ruler), 教室( classroom), 椅子(chair), 桌子(table/desk). etc… Students were asked to identify pictures of stationery by reciting, playing games, and doing group work activities. Students were able to practice answering different questions using sentence patterns such as:
a. 教室里有什么? 教室里有剪刀(铅笔, 纸, 文件夹, 黑板, 橡皮, 订书机, 纸夹, 钢笔, 书包).
b. 这是什么? 这是一本书. 这是一个订书机. 这是一张桌子.
This month, Grade 5 students focused on the topic ” Fresh Market.” Students learned the words according to the different categories. Then, the teacher created three scenes happened in fresh market: Scenario one was they would go to fresh market with their parents. Scenario two was they would buy something in the fresh market and also they would communicate with”……多少钱？/可以便宜吗？/……三块五毛一斤. Scenario three was they finished their task in fresh market. Students discussed what they would do in the fresh market in class, composed the script and translated. At last,they had fun acting them out as they have learned the following Chinese words and sentences : 白菜，西红柿，黄瓜，南瓜，虾，鱼，鱼肉，鸡肉，牛排，苹果，梨，菠萝，葡萄，木瓜；The sentences :我家附近有个菜市场/菜市场里有…… /……多少钱？/可以便宜吗？/大白菜两块五毛一斤。
Students were asked to look up the meaning of the opposite words then to match them in pairs. And also students played Bingo Game in the class.
Pre-K Mandarin – Mr. Maverick Arenas
Pre-K students focused on the topic “Daily routine” this month. We learned different words about the topics such as, 洗澡、洗手、洗头、洗头发、洗脸、洗脚、起床、上学、刷牙、回家、睡觉、吃早饭、放学. Every Mandarin class, students were tasked to identify Chinese characters, and read aloud words presented in class. Different sentence patterns are also introduced in class to help them apply and use these words in a variety of situations.
