ALL ABOUT FOOD

Students love the final topic for this year! All about food! We talked about our favorite food and translated them in Chinese. School Supplies and Stationery

Grade 1 students focused on the topic “Stationery” or “文具“  this month. Students enjoyed learning different vocabulary words like: 铅笔(pencil), 剪刀(scissors), 纸(paper), 白板(whiteboard), 橡皮( eraser), 书包(school bag), 订书机(stapler), 卷笔刀(sharpener), 彩色笔(color pencil), 钢笔(fountain pen), 尺子( ruler), 教室( classroom), 椅子(chair), 桌子(table/desk). etc… Students were asked to identify pictures of stationery by reciting, playing games, and doing group work activities. Students were able to practice answering different  questions using sentence patterns such as:

a. 教室里有什么?  教室里有剪刀(铅笔, 纸, 文件夹, 黑板, 橡皮, 订书机, 纸夹, 钢笔, 书包).

b. 这是什么?  这是一本书. 这是一个订书机. 这是一张桌子.

日常生活 Daily Routines

For this month, Kinder students focused on the topic ” Daily Routines.” Students discussed their daily routines in class and had fun acting them out as they learn the following Chinese words: 起床, 刷牙, 洗脸, 洗手, 洗头发, 洗澡, 吃早餐, 上学, 上课, 吃午餐, 玩游戏, 放学, 回家, 吃晚餐, 睡觉. Students were asked to identify Chinese characters by matching pictures and words with pinyin. Students play a variety of games like Pass the Message for retaining words.

Telling Time and Date

新年快乐!!!After the long Christmas break, Grade 1 students came back to school learning the Chinese days of the week and months of the year. We are also learning to tell the time by the hour, half hour and minutes. Young students are more engaged and interested in learning a topic through singing songs. Here are some songs we’ve been singing in class for the past few weeks.

Kinder Mandarin- 我的身体

For the past few weeks, Kindergarten students focused on the topic: My Body Parts 我的身体. Students learned to listen, speak, read and identify the different body parts. They were also guided to write some words with the proper stroke order. Students learned to recite sentence patterns like:

a. 我用眼睛看书。

b. 我用鼻子闻东西.

c. 我用耳朵听音乐.

d. 我用嘴巴吃东西.

e. 我用手写字.

f. 我用脚走路.

Fun Mandarin

For the past few weeks, Grade 1 students focused on Lesson 3: A Good Friend ( Easy Steps to Chinese for Kids 2A). Students learned to listen, speak, read and write new vocabulary words and made sentence patterns in class. They also had fun singing “朋友,我的朋友“ and  “找朋友.” Students were introduced to PinYin learning the six vowels of the Chinese alphabet and four tones. Below is a link for the Pinyin Song. Students had fun learning Mandarin through playing games, role playing, making sentences, etc. Below are the vocabulary words that we are learning for Lesson 3.

拼音 单韵母: 单韵母歌 Single Vowel Song

Sentence Patterns:

FUN MANDARIN in Kinder!!!

How fast time flies! We are now on Week 9 of our school year! Kinder classes are having fun and learning a lot from our Mandarin class. Students were able to learn to listen, read, speak and write Mandarin in class. These were our topics for the past few weeks of school:
1. Classroom Rules and Language
2. Basic Greetings and Names (你叫什么名字?;你几岁?你上几年级?) (我叫________. 我四岁. 我上幼儿园.)
3. Basic Chinese Writing Strokes (横,竖,撇,捺,点,提)
4. Polite Expressions (谢谢、不客气、对不起、没关系、请帮我, etc…)
5. Counting and Writing Numbers 1-10. (一到十)
6. Recognition and Writing Family Members using the Chinese language (爸爸、妈妈、姐姐、哥哥、弟弟、妹 妹、爷爷、奶奶、外公、外婆).
7. Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节, 月亮, 满月, 月饼,灯笼,嫦娥,后羿,赏月,水果
8. Songs and Rhymes (早上好,早安歌,再见歌,上学歌,数字歌,手指家庭,让爱住我家,如果感到开心,静夜思)
