Let’s grow some 豆芽!

Students in Kindergarten are learning fruits and vegetables in Mandarin class! Recently, the students are able to learn and identify fruits and vegetables in Chinese. They are also developing the ability to read Chinese characters for the following fruits and vegetables:

Fruits:

Kinder students recently started growing their own beansprouts to understand the growth of a plant. Green Beans or Mung Beans were taught to them to understand where beansprouts came from. They are making a small experiment in Chinese class by growing their Green beans or Mung Beans into an edible beansprouts. 

The kids are having fun and so excited to see the final product of their mini experiment. It teaches them to be more patient and responsible in taking care of their own plant. In a few days, the long wait will be over and they will be able to witness the beauty of their Green Mung beans.

Kinder Mandarin Class topic

恭喜发财 (Gong Xi Fa Cai) to everyone as we welcome the Year of the Rooster. Kinder students really enjoyed singing 恭喜恭喜 and wish everybody all the best for this year. Students continued to learn about the 12 zodiacs and other animals that bring luck and prosperity to everyone during this occasion. Below is the topic tackled this week and will be reviewed next week for Kinder Mandarin class:

Nursery Go pets!

 

 

Nursery Chinese – Mr. Arenas

 

Hi! Nursery students are learning pets and animals in Mandarin. Students were very excited as they got to know more about the common pets we usually get for our home. We learned how to say dogs, cats, birds and fish in Chinese. We even sing Chinese rhymes about dogs and cats 《小狗乖乖》;《三只小猫》. We also did different activities to reinforce the learning of these words such as “go fishing” ; “catching a bird” etc. Students also learned to recognize the Chinese characters for these animals and learned to say them correctly.

Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes!

 

 

Kindergarten Chinese – Mr. Arenas

 

This week, Kinder class has been learning “Body parts” in Chinese. They were introduced to the Chinese version of the nursery rhyme “Head, shoulders, knees and toes”. Students were tasked to sing the song and copy the action from the video presented. Kids had played various games such as a “simon says”-like game called “老师说” which actually means “Teachers says” if translated in English. This game is played by everybody and students were asked to touch the body part that the teacher will say. It is one activity that we use in class to improve students’ listening skills and aid them to remember sets of words about the topic. They also completed an art activity which helps them to identify and locate their body parts.

Learning to recognize Chinese character strokes!

 

 

Nursery Chinese – Mr. Arenas

 

Hi! Students in Nursery class begin to recognize Chinese character strokes. Activities that are done in class to reinforce it are through writing basic strokes in small whiteboard and using blocks to form the same stroke. Students are also learning about family. They also learned simple sentences to say “I love Mama and Papa”. A new song called “Three bears/ 三只熊” is also introduced this week。

Kindergarten Class! (Polite expressions, Personal Introduction and Family)

This Kindergarten class learned about polite expressions, personal introduction and family. Students are learning to recognize Chinese characters and use these words in their daily speaking practice activity. Students conduct simple role playing in the classroom using the words they learned. Students in Kinder class begin to trace their Chinese names in Chinese class as part of their daily class routine.

Grade 4 & 5 Mandarin Foundation

 

 

Grade 4&5 Foundation  Chinese – Mr. Arenas

 

Hi! This week, the 4th and 5th graders of Chinese foundation class learned vocabulary words about countries and languages. Students learned different countries and shared their traveling experiences using the grammar structure “我去过….”. They also learned the languages spoken in these countries and shared their experiences with it. They were tasked to write these words and use it in a sentence every after class to apply learning and get more comfortable in using the language.

Kinder September 15, 2016 – 祝大家中秋节快乐!

 

 

Kindergarten Chinese – Mr. Arenas

 

This week, students in Kinder mandarin continues to learn Chinese n umbers from 1-20 and are given a chance to write them every before classes starts.  They are also introduced in Chinese vocabularies about greetings and Mid-autumn festival. A historic poem 《静夜思》 written by 李白 (Li Bai) – one of the two most prominent figures in the flourishing of Chinese poetry in the Tang Dynasty was introduced to the students through a song. During this week, students also experienced and played the traditional dice game 博饼 as part of their Chinese cultural exposure. Students learned some vocabulary words related to the said festivity.

Nursery August 22-26, 2016

Hi-5 Nursery students! This week Nursery class learned new Chinese song 《我的朋友在哪里》(Where is my friend?). Students had a lot of fun singing the song and doing its actions. They also recited the word 朋友(pengyou) and even counted their 朋友’s/friends in the classroom. Students in nursery class are beginning to learn basic greeting words and polite expressions such as 你好、再见、谢谢、不客气. These words are used and applied in the classroom to get the students more familiar with these words. Students are also given different task to reinforce their character recognition skills which is very essential to their reading ability. The class has also started learning Chinese numbers.

KINDER August 25, 2016

Hi! This week was about learning numbers. Students learned number words in Chinese and were asked to identify the Chinese numbers. Different Chinese rhymes were also introduced to the whole class to practice their pronunciation and counting ability.
