It’s quite hard to believe that an entire quarter has gone by. Time has definitely flown these few months. But then again, they do say that time flies when you’re having fun, and we sure did have tons of fun in Grade 2ML this past quarter!
It did not take the kids long to get into the groove of school. They took to the rules and routines of our classrooms so seamlessly, that our days were like clockwork. So what did we keep ourselves busy with these past few months? Read on to see all the fun we’ve had during the first quarter of second grade!
Fun with Math Manipulatives
During the first quarter, we learned all about digits and place value. We used snap cubes, tens cubs, and lots of toys and materials to explore how to count, how to group objects into tens and ones, and even into hundreds, tens, and ones. We learned that counting things in groups of tens makes things a lot easier to count too.
Exploring the World Around Us
What better way to learn about the world around us than to explore and experiment? Science class gives us a chance to ask questions about the world around us, and to try to see how things work. We also had a hand in seeing how everyday materials we use can be made better by making improvements on them. We learned that this is a part of science called engineering design. It was definitely a lot of fun to see how instruments work, and try to make our own instruments using scrap material.
We also learned about the scientific method, which is a process that scientists use to answer questions and learn more about the things around us. It was really cool to do experiments using the scientific method too!
Practical Social Studies
We started Social Studies with learning about the country we live in. It was so interesting to learn about different festivals celebrated in the Philippines, and realizing that we live in such a diverse and exciting country. It was especially fun when we were able to taste some food local to the Philippines that our classmates brought to share with us.
