This school year, we encourage learning in different kinds of avenues. As the future grows digital everyday, we find it an utmost importance to align with these trends and help our students prepare for a digital society. One way of doing this is to apply blended learning.
Blended learning is learning in both online or electronic means and face-to-face or classroom interaction. Through this, teachers use blogs, online learning management systems, emails, websites, and other electronic means to also support student learning. In CISM, teachers are encouraged to have an online “classroom.” This online classroom is where homework, announcement, quizzes, polls are posted. Some teachers use their class blogs for this. The directory for classblogs is accessed at http://cismconnect.org.
Some teachers use Edmodo. Edmodo is coined as the Facebook for schools. On Edmodo, teachers create groups or classes which are exclusive for class members only. Parents can also create accounts using parent codes so they can see the activities of their children. Parents may ask their children for the parent codes, or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Along with blended learning is the need to be more vigilant about exercising digital citizenship. Participating in online environment prepares students to be more conscious and be more responsible with their behavior. Below are the guidelines we remind our students to apply:
This year, teachers from Gr. 3 and up will be using Edmodo to facilitate classroom instruction. Edmodo is a social networking tool that is used as a communication tools between teachers and students. Edmodo provides teachers and students a secure place to connect and collaborate, share content and educational applications, and access homework, class discussions and notifications. Students will be taking quizzes and can ask questions from home about assignments. Using Edmodo from home is a great way to stay in touch with what we are learning about in the classroom!
Parents may also access their child’s activity and list of assignments through Edmodo. Parents may ask for their Parent Code from their child or from their child’s teachers.
The school’s Edmodo site is: http://cismanila.edmodo.com
